Oregon Player Trolls USC with Instagram Post After Rivalry Win
Following USC's loss to Oregon, a Ducks wide receiver posted a taunting message on social media, adding to the tension after a game marked by a controversial hit and post-game altercations.
The rivalry between USC and Oregon intensified following the Ducks' 41-27 victory at the Coliseum, marked by a controversial hit and subsequent social media taunts. Oregon wide receiver Messiah Hampton posted a photo of himself with a USC towel on Instagram, captioning it, "Ain’t neva rock a Trojan since I was jhit," directly referencing the Trojans.
The game's atmosphere was charged, particularly after USC safety Desman Stephens II delivered a hit to Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Moore left the game in an ambulance and did not return. Reports indicate Stephens II was seen celebrating the play, which contributed to a brawl between players and coaches. While Stephens II was ejected, he remained on the USC sideline. Head coach Lincoln Riley stated he did not see the celebration and that Stephens II was not sent to the locker room as he is a team member.
USC later announced that Stephens II would serve a one-game suspension for his actions. Despite the on-field incident, the remainder of the game was largely played without further major disruptions. Nebraska transfer Dylan Raiola performed well for Oregon, completing 19 of 25 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns.
Following the game's conclusion, an altercation occurred in the tunnel between players from both teams, requiring intervention from coaches and other players to separate them. Oregon coach Dan Lanning also made a pointed remark during his press conference, suggesting that recruits seeking a "Chris Brown concert" should consider USC, a veiled jab at the program's culture.
Oregon's Messiah Hampton's Instagram post and Lanning's comments added further fuel to the rivalry, extending the competitive tension beyond the final whistle.
