Oregon Ducks Wide Receiver Evan Stewart Arrested on DUII Charge
Stewart was arrested early Sunday morning, hours after the Ducks' victory over Nebraska, and has since been addressed by head coach Dan Lanning.
Oregon Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) near the school's Eugene campus.
Springfield, Oregon police reported that officers initiated a traffic stop around 5 a.m. The investigation led to probable cause for Stewart's arrest, according to a police statement. He was booked at the Springfield Municipal Jail and released an hour later to Ducks wide receiver Dakorien Moore. Stewart had been sidelined with an undisclosed injury during the Ducks' 17-14 victory over Nebraska on Saturday.
Head coach Dan Lanning acknowledged the incident, stating that it did not align with the program's standards. "There was an incident this weekend that didn't match our standard here in our program," Lanning said. "There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like. But that would be handled internally." He added that the matter would be handled within the program and would not be further discussed publicly.
Stewart, a four-star recruit from Frisco, Texas, transferred to Oregon in 2024 after initially attending Texas A&M. The redshirt senior has accumulated 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns this season.
In a separate but related matter, Springfield police terminated a vehicle pursuit in the same vicinity as Stewart's arrest. While Stewart is not linked to the pursuit, Lanning addressed potential involvement of other players. When asked if his players were involved in the speeding incident, Lanning's response indicated that his earlier comments addressed both Stewart's arrest and the speeding allegations.
This marks the second DUII charge involving the Oregon football program in recent months. Running back coach Ra'Shaad Samples was booked on a DUII charge in August and has pleaded not guilty.
