Oregon Ducks' Trojan Horse Skit Backfires in Upset Loss to UCLA
A pre-game stunt intended to mock USC instead became a symbol of Oregon's surprising 17-15 defeat.
No. 13 Oregon's cheer and dance squad unveiled a Trojan horse replica on the field prior to their Saturday game against No. 21 UCLA, a pre-game skit that drew widespread online mockery after the Ducks lost the contest 17-15.
The elaborate stunt, which involved the Oregon mascot emerging from the horse's backside to a soundtrack from Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," was intended as a jab at USC, whom the Ducks had defeated two weeks prior in a closely contested game.
However, the display, which remained on the field for a brief period, was met with criticism and amusement on social media for its timing. Many users pointed out that the skit appeared to target the wrong Los Angeles team, especially given the upset loss to UCLA that followed.
The Oregon Ducks now hold a 3-2 record for the season, which places them outside the College Football Playoff picture.
