Oregon Ducks Coach Dan Lanning Addresses Evan Stewart's DUI Arrest
Head coach vows 'appropriate action' after wide receiver's arrest following team's victory.
Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning stated that "appropriate action" will be taken following the arrest of wide receiver Evan Stewart on charges of driving under the influence. Stewart was taken into custody early Sunday morning, hours after the Ducks secured a victory over Nebraska on Saturday night.
Lanning confirmed he was still gathering details regarding the incident but emphasized that the situation would be handled internally. "There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like," Lanning said during a press conference. He added, "But that would be handled internally. I’m not gonna respond to any other questions about that. We’re gonna handle that with our guys."
The incident casts a shadow over the team's recent win. Stewart did not participate in the game against Nebraska due to an undisclosed injury. This season, he has recorded 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns. He missed the entirety of the previous season due to a torn right patellar tendon.
The team also faces uncertainty regarding the status of star quarterback Dante Moore, who has missed the last two games with a concussion. Moore participated in practice leading up to the Week 6 matchup against UCLA, but backup quarterbacks Brock Thoman and Dylan Raiola played in both the UCLA and Nebraska games.
