OPEC+ Subgroup Agrees to Keep Oil Production Steady Amid Price Surge

Seven major oil-exporting countries agreed Sunday to keep production steady in November, a decision that comes as the price of benchmark Brent crude oil has surpassed $100 a barrel. The conflict involving Iran, which began with U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28, has disrupted global oil supplies and contributed to the price increase.

The subgroup, known as OPEC+, includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman. This group is scheduled to convene again on November 1 to reassess the conditions within the oil market.

Separately, the Group of Seven (G7) wealthy democracies announced Friday their intention to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in the coming weeks. This release will commence with substantial amounts of diesel, a fuel that has recently reached record high prices in the United States, impacting farmers, truckers, and consumers.

The G7 committed to a "frontloaded substantial release" of diesel within the next 20 days, with the remaining volume to be distributed over four months.
