Courtney Clenney, an Instagram and OnlyFans model, has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting responsibility for the 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli. Clenney, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter with a deadly weapon. She will serve two years of the sentence, with credit for the four years she has already spent in jail awaiting trial. Following her release, she will be on probation for five years.
Clenney faced second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of Obumseli, 27, at their Miami apartment. Prosecutors had sought a six-year prison term. During the sentencing, Obumseli's mother addressed the court, expressing the profound grief and lasting pain of losing her son. She emphasized that Christian should not be remembered solely for his death but as a kind-hearted, compassionate, friendly, and respectful individual.
Bodycam footage released previously showed Clenney covered in blood immediately after the stabbing, where she claimed to have thrown a knife in self-defense after fearing for her life. She admitted to stabbing Obumseli but stated she did not intend to kill him. In the footage, she was heard sobbing and telling police, "I'm terrified of him" and "I was so scared."
Clenney's defense team had argued that she was in an abusive relationship with Obumseli. Court filings indicated plans to present text messages and witness testimony to support her claim of fearing for her life. One text message reportedly showed Clenney accusing Obumseli of hitting her, to which he responded he was trying to move her hand and did not mean to. The defense also intended to introduce evidence of alleged abuse and injuries.
Police responded to the couple's apartment on April 3, 2022. Clenney was found covered in blood. Obumseli was pronounced dead at the hospital. Autopsy findings by the medical examiner suggested the fatal wound could not have been caused by a knife thrown from the distance Clenney had indicated. Obumseli's family attorneys rejected Clenney's self-defense claim, asserting he was the victim of domestic violence by the model.
Clenney, who used the name Courtney Tailor on social media platforms, was arrested at the scene. Obumseli's parents were previously taken into custody for allegedly attempting to retrieve his computer from the apartment but were later released.
