Courtney Clenney, an OnlyFans model accused of murdering her boyfriend Christian Obumseli, is arguing for self-defense and battered spouse status ahead of her trial. In recent court filings, her defense lawyers are attempting to prevent prosecutors from portraying her as the aggressor by introducing evidence of alleged prior violent incidents involving Obumseli.

One key piece of evidence the defense wants to present is an arrest warrant from Austin, Texas, dating back to November 2020. The warrant, which does not indicate how the case was resolved, accuses Obumseli of cruelty to a nonlivestock animal. According to the defense motion, the warrant's supporting documents detail how apartment staff found Obumseli's dog, Halo, deceased in a kennel. The defense claims the dog was found without water and surrounded by feces, with a veterinary pathologist concluding dehydration as the likely cause of death. The filing also states Obumseli provided inconsistent accounts regarding the dog's demise.

This effort to introduce the animal cruelty warrant is part of a larger pretrial dispute over how the couple's volatile relationship will be presented to the jury. The defense also challenges the prosecution's use of an elevator video, allegedly showing Clenney as the aggressor. Prosecutors contend the video depicts Clenney striking Obumseli before the elevator doors open. However, Clenney's lawyers argue the provided footage is incomplete and that earlier footage reveals her entering the elevator partially clothed and barefoot, with blood on her foot. They claim Obumseli followed her into the elevator, and during a struggle, he allegedly put her in a headlock while trying to operate the elevator and gain access to their apartment. The defense asserts that Clenney struck him during this struggle as a means of defense. Prosecutors have contested this narrative, citing the Miami-Dade medical examiner's conclusion that the fatal wound was inconsistent with Clenney's description of the events.

Clenney was arrested in Hawaii four months after the fatal incident and charged with second-degree murder. She has pleaded not guilty. The fatal stabbing occurred on April 3, 2022, in Miami, Florida.
