Online Trolls Target NYPD Commissioner After ICE Shooting
Social media users, including allies of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, directed hateful messages at Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch following a recent incident in the Bronx.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch has been the target of vitriolic online attacks following a shooting incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the Bronx. Social media trolls have posted hateful messages on platforms including X, with some users echoing calls from political allies of Mayor Zohran Mamdani to remove Tisch from her position.
The incident that appears to have catalyzed the online backlash occurred last week when federal agents shot and injured a suspected migrant in the Bronx. The shooting sparked outrage and speculation, despite repeated assurances from ICE that local NYPD officers were not involved in the operation.
One X user described Tisch as a "fascist" and a "nepo baby" in a tirade that included profanity directed at the NYPD and ICE. Another user referred to Tisch as an "ICE collaborator, a fascist collaborator and heir to a zionist billionaire."
The Democratic Socialists of America, the political affiliation of Mayor Mamdani, issued a statement on Sunday demanding that the mayor "fire NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and use every power available to him to drive ICE out of New York City."
However, the Mamdani administration has dismissed these demands. A spokesperson for the mayor's office stated that Tisch is the police commissioner and that there are "no plans to change that."
Tisch assumed the role of NYPD Commissioner in November 2024. The online attacks and calls for her removal come amidst ongoing debates surrounding immigration enforcement and the role of federal agencies within New York City.
