One Dead, Three Injured After Driver Runs Red Light in Bronx

One person has died and three others were injured after a driver ran a red light and struck four pedestrians in an intersection in the Bronx on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Holland Avenue and Allerton Avenue.

According to law enforcement sources, the driver of a Mercedes was traveling west on Allerton Avenue when they failed to stop for a steady red light and entered the intersection. The vehicle then struck four women, all between the ages of 50 and 60, who were crossing in the crosswalk.

The four injured pedestrians were transported to Jacobi Medical Center. One woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two other women are in critical condition, while the fourth is expected to survive. The driver sustained minor injuries and was conscious and alert at the scene. This individual told a witness they were attempting to beat the red light.

The Mercedes also collided with two other vehicles after striking the pedestrians. Emergency medical services treated a total of nine people at the scene.
