One person was killed and six others were injured after gunfire erupted at a large, unsanctioned party in Morgan Hill, California, on Saturday night. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is leading the homicide investigation into the incident, which drew over 300 attendees.

Deputies responded to the scene around 10 p.m. following reports of intoxicated individuals and bottles being thrown at vehicles. Upon arrival, they found the gathering in disarray due to the shooting, according to the sheriff's office. Responding deputies provided initial medical aid before emergency personnel arrived. The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured were transported to local hospitals.

Preliminary information suggests a handgun was used in the shooting, but no suspects have been publicly identified. The sheriff's office stated that they believe the shooting was an isolated event and described the investigation as potentially lengthy and complex. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police Department, responded to assist.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen condemned the violence, calling it "tragic and senseless." He added, "Our hearts go out to the victim's family, those recovering from their injuries and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event." Jonsen vowed that authorities would "work tirelessly until those responsible for this horrific act are identified, apprehended, and held fully accountable."
