A man has died and another was injured in a stabbing incident at a harbor in Ramsgate, Kent, early Sunday morning. Police arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the attack, which occurred just before 5 a.m. Officers responding to the scene discovered two men with stab wounds, both of whom were transported to a local hospital.
The deceased, identified as a 52-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries after being found on Harbour Street. The second victim, a 48-year-old man found on Harbour Parade, has since been released from the hospital. Authorities have stated they are not seeking additional suspects in relation to the incident.
One of the victims was reportedly a taxi driver whose vehicle collided with a bollard during the attack. The car became lodged on the bollard and remained within the police cordon on Sunday.
Local officials have expressed concern over the incident. Ramsgate mayor Cllr Raushan Ara stated she was "shocked by the horrific incident" and is calling for increased policing in the town. She indicated that rising antisocial behavior and drug-related issues need to be addressed to improve safety. Cllr Ara has requested a multi-agency meeting with Chief Inspector Ian Swallow and other local authorities.
Cllr Becky Wing echoed these concerns, highlighting the "alarming increase in knife crime" and ongoing antisocial behavior. She noted that despite regular meetings with police and agencies and the return of a Public Spaces Protection Order, the town continues to feel unsafe. Cllr Wing has also written to MP Polly Billington and Inspector Swallow, urging for sustained multi-agency action to tackle crime and antisocial behavior.
Police patrols in the area have been increased as the murder investigation continues to determine the full circumstances of the stabbing. Kent Police are appealing for information from the public, quoting reference 46/139262/26.
