A shooting in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday evening resulted in one fatality and four injuries, occurring approximately 1.5 miles from where Governor Andy Beshear was delivering a speech. Beshear confirmed the incident during his remarks at the Kentucky Democratic Party’s Moving Forward Together event at the Hyatt Regency.

"Before I continue, I do need to let y’all know we do have some tough news tonight," Beshear told the audience. "About a mile and a half from here, we’ve had a shooting actually since we started this dinner. We have five people that I think received injuries and probably have one deceased."

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers, who was present at the scene, provided an update indicating that a 4-year-old, a 14-year-old, and two adults were among those shot around 6:45 p.m. at Charles Young Park. The victims were transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The park was hosting an outdoor concert at the time of the shooting. Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, according to reports from the Lexington Herald Leader.

The shooting in Kentucky is reportedly the third mass shooting to occur within a 24-hour period across the United States. In response to the incidents, Governor Beshear stated, "To stop mass shootings, we have got to elect Democrats that will actually do something about it."

Information regarding any potential suspect apprehension was not immediately available. The Lexington Police Department has not yet released further details on the incident.
