Oma's Pride, a family-owned pet food company, has initiated a voluntary recall of one lot of its Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe. The recall, posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website, addresses concerns that approximately 639 bags of the 6-pound product may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected product was distributed to retailers and wholesalers in 11 states: Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The recall was prompted by a consumer complaint to the FDA, which led to a positive test result for Salmonella in a product sample. Oma's Pride stated it is investigating to determine the source of the contamination.
According to the company, three illnesses have been reported in association with the complaint. Symptoms of Salmonella infection in pets can include diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and lethargy. While uncommon, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and be fatal if not treated. The company emphasized that there is no risk to humans from handling the product.
The recalled dog food is a frozen raw product sold in 6-pound gusseted stand-up pouches containing 12 individually wrapped, 8-ounce vacuum-sealed portions. The specific lot code for the recalled product is BB012729, with a manufacturing date of January 27, 2026, and an expiration or best-by date of January 27, 2029. Products were distributed between February 12, 2026, and May 15, 2026. Oma's Pride confirmed that no other products, sizes, or lots are affected by this recall.
Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to stop feeding it to their pets immediately and dispose of it safely. The company recommends washing and sanitizing any pet food bowls, cups, storage containers, or other items that came into contact with the recalled food.
