"I didn't deserve to go on that tour," Lawrence stated, acknowledging that his performance in the previous season was not at the required level. He attributed some of this to an Achilles injury sustained during the 2025 Six Nations, which kept him sidelined for six months and impacted his form.

Lawrence believes the "England snub was the wake-up call I needed." He highlighted that despite not being away with the national team, he had a busy summer, with six first-team players from Bath, including himself, getting married. He noted that this period of personal milestones has helped settle the team, with the coach likely preferring the players to be settled off the field.
