Olivier Martinez Hopes Son Will Forgive Halle Berry After Custody Ruling

Olivier Martinez, Halle Berry’s ex-husband, stated that he hopes their son, Maceo, will “forgive” the actress following a contentious custody battle between his parents. A judge issued a ruling on Thursday that dissolved a temporary restraining order against Berry, though Martinez retained physical custody of their 13-year-old son.

Martinez told “Extra” that he “truly hopes” Berry and Maceo will “be able to have a better relationship in the future.” He added, “I don’t want my son to hate his mom. I want him to love her. I want him to forgive her, and I want them to reconciliate in some sort at one point.”

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelley Kaufman's ruling on Thursday allowed Martinez to keep physical custody of Maceo, while the former couple will continue to share legal custody. A future hearing is scheduled to further discuss their custody arrangement.

In a development favorable to Berry, Kaufman dismissed Martinez’s request for a domestic violence restraining order against her. Berry’s attorney, Marina Beck, stated, “We are extremely pleased that the Court has dissolved the TRO. As we move forward, Halle is determined to continue to focus on the well-being and best interests of her family.” A source close to the situation described the decision as “a huge win for Halle.”

The custody dispute intensified earlier this month when Martinez accused Berry of physically abusing Maceo, including allegations of jumping on and choking their son. Martinez had initially been granted a temporary restraining order and sole custody, which limited Berry’s contact with Maceo to court-ordered visitation.

Berry has denied these accusations, with her attorney calling Martinez’s filing “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading.” She later countered, accusing Martinez of influencing Maceo to become “angry and combative” towards her and petitioned the court to reinstate their 50/50 custody agreement. Berry also sought sole legal custody, aiming to regain authority over major decisions concerning Maceo’s welfare, arguing that Martinez had interfered with their son's needs.

During court proceedings, Maceo testified for nearly four hours. Martinez later reportedly stormed out of the courtroom, returning shortly after for closed testimony. On October 22, Martinez reiterated his allegations against Berry, despite having previously signed a declaration stating there had been no history of domestic violence between them. Prior to closing arguments, Berry’s daughter, Nahla Aubry, and her fiancé, Van Hunt, also testified in the case.
