Singer Olivia Rodrigo privately provided $5,000 to a University of Alabama student to cover her final semester's tuition, a gesture that remained undisclosed for over a year. The student, Jamie Causey, a public relations major, shared the story on TikTok on Tuesday.

Causey, 21, a first-generation college student from Alexander City, Alabama, explained that Rodrigo reached out in early 2025 after seeing a video in which Causey discussed difficulties paying her tuition. Rodrigo's message offered financial assistance, asking if Causey was open to receiving help and inquiring about her Venmo details.

In screenshots shared by Causey, Rodrigo expressed admiration for her TikTok content, calling her a "source of positivity and light." The singer stated she wanted to help as Causey was nearing graduation.

Causey, initially stunned, responded that while she had not publicly shared her Venmo due to her belief that personal financial struggles are not others' responsibility, she would accept help. She noted that Rodrigo's music had been a source of strength for her.

In April 2025, Rodrigo's representative confirmed the $5,000 payment had been sent. The in-state undergraduate tuition at the University of Alabama for each semester is $5,959.

Causey decided to keep the interaction private at the time to preserve the personal significance of the gift. She expressed deep gratitude, stating that Rodrigo's kindness to a stranger and her commitment to giving back were impactful. Causey also acknowledged Paris Hilton, whose representative offered merchandise to the student.

In her TikTok video, Causey encouraged her followers to emulate Rodrigo's kindness by performing small acts of generosity for others, such as sending messages, paying for coffee, or offering a smile.
