Olivia Newton-John's Charity Walk Concludes, Funds to Support New Initiatives

Chloe Lattanzi, daughter of the late Olivia Newton-John, has led the final Walk for Wellness charity event, an initiative founded by her mother. The event, which has raised $11 million for cancer research since its inception in 2013, will cease its annual format due to high operating costs, Lattanzi announced. The funds generated will now be channeled into new, year-round fundraising endeavors.

Lattanzi stated that the decision to conclude the annual walk was driven by the significant expense involved in organizing the event. "It does cost quite a lot of money to put on the event, so we need that money to go towards the programs and the patients around the world," she explained to Seven News. She expressed a vision to expand the reach of her mother's legacy, aiming to establish "an Olivia Newton-John wellness centre at every hospital" globally.

"This isn't an end. This is the beginning of year-round fundraising," Lattanzi said, adding that she felt her mother would encourage her to "Make it bigger. Make it broader."

The final Walk for Wellness took place on Sunday at Alexandra Gardens in Melbourne. Attendees included Newton-John's widower, John Easterling, and her niece, actress Tottie Goldsmith. Singer Dannii Minogue also participated, donning a green wig.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre) at Austin Health in Melbourne has been the primary beneficiary of the funds raised by the walk. Newton-John, an iconic Australian singer, died in August 2022 at the age of 73 following a long battle with breast cancer. She was first diagnosed in 1992, and the cancer went into remission before returning in 2013 and 2017.

Lattanzi, Newton-John's only child from her first marriage to actor Matt Lattanzi, has previously spoken about continuing her mother's philanthropic work. In September 2022, she reflected on the support received from the public and her commitment to honoring her mother's mission to help others facing cancer and mental health challenges.
