Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgard Attend 'Wicker' Screening Amidst Mixed Reviews
The stars of the racy fantasy film gathered in New York for a screening, which has drawn polarized critical responses.
Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgard reunited at a New York screening for their new film, "Wicker." The movie, described by some critics as a "mortifying adult fairy tale" and others as a "raunchy, off-kilter delight," has garnered a range of reviews since its release.
Colman, 52, appeared at the event showcasing her new hairstyle, which features long, curly grey hair styled in a half-up, half-down arrangement. She paired the look with a white asymmetric top, black trousers, and white trainers. Skarsgard drew attention with a T-shirt bearing a quote from the film: "lick my worm."
The film, adapted by directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson from a short story by Ursula Wills-Jones, centers on Colman's character, a lonely Fisherwoman who commissions a wicker husband. Played by Skarsgard, the creation comes to life, sparking jealousy among the village women.
Reviews have been divided. Robbie Collin of The Telegraph awarded the film one star, calling it "a mortifying adult fairy tale." In contrast, Brian Viner of the Daily Mail gave it four stars, praising the supporting cast and Skarsgard, but noting that Colman "steals the show."
Kevin Maher of The Times also provided a four-star review, stating that Colman "weaves an astonishing performance" and "single-handedly elevates" the film. Stephen A. Russell of Screenhub also awarded four stars, describing Colman's performance as a "one-woman masterclass."
Siddhant Adlankha of Digital Spy called "Wicker" a "raunchy, off-kilter delight," while Benjamin Lee of The Guardian praised Colman's acting but found the film itself lacking in depth.
Colman and Skarsgard have been promoting "Wicker" since its UK premiere at the London Film Festival. Skarsgard mentioned on The Graham Norton Show that he initially mistook the film for the horror classic "The Wicker Man." Colman described the movie as "wonderful and magical" and noted the cast had "lots of fun making it."
"Wicker" opened in UK cinemas on October 30.
