Ole Miss Fans Chant Profanities at Lane Kiffin During College GameDay Appearance
Chants of 'F--k Lane Kiffin' were heard before and during the former Ole Miss coach's virtual interview on ESPN.
Ole Miss fans made their feelings about former head coach Lane Kiffin known with loud and profane chants early Saturday morning during ESPN's "College GameDay" broadcast in Oxford.
Seconds into the show's broadcast from The Grove, a chorus of "F--k Lane Kiffin" chants erupted from the crowd. The chants were clearly audible on the broadcast as host Pat McAfee opened the show. The jeers intensified when Kiffin appeared on screen for a virtual interview.
Kiffin, now the head coach at LSU, addressed the hostile reception by saying, "It’s not about me. Both teams have great players, great coaches. I have a lot of respect for their programs. This is about the players performing really well tonight in a really awesome matchup."
Security has been significantly increased at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for Kiffin's return to Oxford, where officials anticipate a rowdy atmosphere. The animosity from Ole Miss fans has reportedly extended to Kiffin's daughter, Landry, who is a student at the university. Vulgar banners containing sexual jokes about her were reportedly hung around Oxford earlier in the week.
On Friday, Kiffin reportedly attempted to prepare his team for a tense environment by enlisting a group of LSU students to heckle Tigers players as they left the practice field.
Kiffin is returning to Oxford for the first time since leaving Ole Miss during the 2025 season. During his six-year tenure with the Rebels, he compiled a 55-19 record and led the team to its first College Football Playoff appearance last year. He departed before the playoff run, with former defensive coordinator Pete Golding taking over as head coach.
