An influencer in Owasso, Oklahoma, was killed by her estranged husband in a murder-suicide incident on Thursday, according to police. Sara Gilson, 43, was fatally shot by Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, 47, after he broke into her home.
The incident occurred days after Gilson posted a video to TikTok in which she stated her soon-to-be ex-husband was a pedophile. In the caption, she wrote, "I wish I was joking."
Around 11:15 p.m. on the night of her death, Gilson's minor son informed a 911 dispatcher that his stepfather had shot his mother. Dispatchers reported hearing a woman screaming and crying, followed by a gunshot, during the call.
Court documents revealed that Gilson had recently filed a protective order against Duffey. Another woman had also filed a separate protective order against Duffey on the same day, alleging he kissed and touched her 15-year-old daughter, who was on the youth basketball team he coached. The minor's mother reported that Duffey was allegedly seen in the act by another coach and that the teenage girl told her mother he had sent inappropriate messages and offered her money to remain silent.
Gilson's protective order also referenced these allegations. According to reports, Gilson had previously filed two protective orders against Duffey in 2021, but they were dismissed. The most recent order, extended on June 23 and valid through August 24, mandated that Duffey stay at least 100 yards away from Gilson and vacate their shared home.
Before her death, Gilson shared additional videos on TikTok, one thanking female friendships for support and another expressing a desire to move past a difficult experience. Duffey's own social media posts included cryptic remarks about relationships and personal struggles.
A GoFundMe page has been established for Gilson's two children. Loved ones described her death as an "unimaginable loss" and highlighted her dedication to her children, who are now facing life without her.
