Ohio Inmate Escapes Handcuffs, Assaults Bailiffs in Courthouse

A convicted criminal identified as Timothy Reaggle, 20, managed to escape his handcuffs and assault two bailiffs during an attempted escape from a courthouse in Lisbon, Ohio on Monday. The incident occurred shortly after Reaggle was sentenced by Judge Scott Washam to one year in prison for a series of violent charges.

As bailiff Keith Thorn was escorting Reaggle down a courthouse hallway toward a holding cell, Reaggle broke free from his restraints. He then struck Thorn in the throat, causing the bailiff to fall. Video footage captured the attack, after which Reaggle fled towards the courthouse exit. He then reportedly knocked down a second bailiff, Steve Boyd, near a doorway before continuing down a stairwell.

Despite attempts by officers to subdue him after reaching the ground floor, Reaggle continued to resist. He ran past security barriers at the courthouse entrance, but was apprehended when a deputy sheriff, Nick Rusyn, deployed a Taser.

Both bailiffs sustained injuries in the altercation. Thorn was left bleeding from his head and was taken to a hospital, along with Boyd. Both deputies suffered broken bones and are now recovering at home, according to local reports.

Sheriff Brian McLaughlin stated that additional charges are anticipated against Reaggle, including two counts of felony assault against police officers, felony escape, and resisting arrest. "I think my staff did an excellent job," McLaughlin commented.

Witness Larry Stacey, who has practiced law for 35 years, described the event as something he had "never seen anything like that."
