Ohio Firefighter Charged After Allegedly Handcuffing Boyfriend, Stealing Car
A Toledo firefighter faces abduction and other charges after an incident that began with consensual handcuffing and escalated to her allegedly refusing to release her boyfriend, stealing his car and phone, and breaking into his home.
A Toledo firefighter is facing multiple charges, including abduction, after an incident in which she allegedly handcuffed her boyfriend, stole his car and phone, and broke into his house.
Kenasia Guilford, 33, appeared in Toledo court on Monday. According to reports, the alleged victim, who is also a firefighter and a captain within the department, was handcuffed to a staircase. He reportedly had to gnaw on the restraints to free himself.
Guilford's attorney, Richard Mitchell, stated in court that the series of events stemmed from a paramour situation where the defendant learned information that was traumatic and caused her significant concern. The incident reportedly began as a consensual act, with court records describing the handcuffing as being "for the purpose of consensual exploit."
However, Guilford then allegedly refused to unlock the handcuffs, leading the victim to feel fear for his personal safety. She is also accused of taking his car keys from his bag, entering his home, and was later found by Toledo Police hiding in an upstairs bedroom.
Moment of escape
The man managed to free himself from the staircase by gnawing on the handcuffs, but he kept them on his wrists. He reportedly walked down the street to seek help from a friend, who subsequently called 911. The friend told the dispatcher that he saw Guilford running toward the victim's house shortly after he had been waiting to help his friend retrieve his car.
It remains unclear how the friend was able to contact the victim, as Guilford allegedly had the victim's phone. The friend speculated to the 911 dispatcher that the phone might have been the reason the victim was handcuffed, to gain access to it.
Guilford's bail was set at $10,000, and a no-contact order has been issued. She has been fitted with an ankle monitor. Her next court appearance is scheduled for October 15 in Toledo.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Toledo Police Department and Guilford's attorney for comment. The exact nature of the "paramour situation" and the information learned by Guilford has not been publicly disclosed.
