Ohio Felon Attacks Deputies, Bailiff During Courthouse Escape Attempt

A recent Ohio felon punched a bailiff in the throat and attacked deputies while attempting to escape custody moments after being sentenced to prison. The incident occurred Monday at the Columbiana County Court.

Timothy J. Reaggle, 20, was being escorted by a bailiff when he suddenly broke free of his handcuffs, turned, and struck the officer. Video released by the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office shows Reaggle then sprinting away, lowering his shoulder to knock another deputy to the ground, and making a dash for a stairwell. He stumbled at the base of the stairs, briefly into another deputy's grasp, before wriggling free again and heading for the front door.

Reaggle was ultimately subdued with a Taser near the exit and apprehended by multiple officers. The video also shows bystanders assisting the injured deputies.

Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin stated that both injured deputies sustained broken bones but have since been released from the hospital. Reaggle is currently being held at the Columbiana County Jail and is awaiting transfer to state prison. Charges related to Monday's incident, including assault on a police officer and felony escape, are pending.

Reaggle was in court for sentencing related to a February 2025 incident involving a home invasion. He had pleaded guilty on July 13 to charges including aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated menacing, failure to comply, and two counts of assault. He had been sentenced to one year in prison just before the attempted courthouse escape.
