Ohio Bride Suffers Stroke on Wedding Day

Anna Lasco, a bride from Ohio, discovered she had suffered a stroke on her wedding day after experiencing a sudden loud buzzing in her ears and losing the use of her left leg. The incident occurred in Rochester, New York, on September 5.

Anna reported experiencing severe dizziness, vertigo, and altered speech. Her husband, Connor Lasco, noticed her eyes were wide and sensed something was wrong. Due to her inability to walk, Anna had to be carried down the aisle by her husband. Following the ceremony, she was taken to the emergency room.

Doctors diagnosed Anna with left vertebral artery dissection, a tear in the artery that supplies blood to the brain. She was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she subsequently had a stroke. Anna spent several weeks hospitalized and undergoing recovery.

Her husband, Connor, provided updates on her condition, stating that the initial blood clot causing the stroke had dissolved, but two additional strokes occurred in different parts of her brain during the process. Anna has begun physical rehabilitation at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.

On September 22, Anna was discharged and returned to her home in Columbus, Ohio. She expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support she received. The condition, vertebral artery dissection, is rare, affecting an estimated one to two people out of every 100,000 annually. Dr. Faisal Aziz, chief of vascular surgery at Penn State Health, noted that the injury can manifest with symptoms like sudden dizziness, headaches, vertigo, or a feeling of imbalance, and can progress to vision problems or speech difficulties. He emphasized that the condition can affect young adults without a clear cause and that symptoms should not be disregarded.

The couple's family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical bills and associated expenses. As of recent updates, they have raised approximately $56,000 towards a $60,000 goal.

Despite the challenging start to their marriage, the couple plans to hold a "wedding redo" on their one-year anniversary, September 5 of next year, to celebrate their wedding festivities.
