A serving police officer has denied causing the death of a 16-year-old boy in a collision involving an electric bike and two cars. Daniel Cartwright, a police constable with Bedfordshire Police, was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Emergency services responded to reports of the crash on Chilwell Lane, Bramcote, on September 28, 2025. Ryley Hutson, the rider of the electric bike, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 16 years old.

Cartwright, 31, of Kettering, Northamptonshire, entered a not guilty plea at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday. A trial date has been scheduled for January 11. His unconditional bail was renewed.
