An off-duty police officer has been charged in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy who died in an e-bike crash.
Ryley Hutson, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene on Chilwell Lane in Bramcote, Nottinghamshire, following an incident involving an electric bike and two vehicles. Emergency services were dispatched to the location around 10 a.m. on September 28 of the previous year.
Daniel Cartwright, 31, a serving officer with Bedfordshire Police who was off-duty at the time of the collision, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on August 6.
Detective Inspector Jamie Moore of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit stated, "This was a tragic incident which has had a devastating impact on Ryley's family. They have been updated about this important step in our investigation, and our thoughts remain with them."
In an online fundraiser established shortly after the incident, Ryley's aunt described the teenager as "full of life, laughter, and love." She added, "Our world has been shattered by the heart-breaking loss of 16-year-old Ryley, who tragically passed away in a fatal motorcycle accident. Ryley was full of life, laughter, and love - a cheeky soul who left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him."
