Off-Duty ICE Agent Arrested After Allegedly Attacking Woman and Father in Fresno

An off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was arrested Friday morning in Fresno, California, after allegedly attacking a woman and her father, according to the Fresno Police Department. The woman reportedly found the agent, identified as 32-year-old David Gonzalez of Texas, sleeping on her front lawn when she arrived home.

Gonzalez appeared intoxicated and agitated when he was awakened by the woman's 72-year-old father, who had come outside to ask him to leave. Police stated that Gonzalez then assaulted the father. When the woman attempted to intervene, Gonzalez allegedly attacked her as well, causing her to fall to the ground.

At this point, the father produced a firearm and fired one shot, striking Gonzalez in the midsection, police said. The woman then called her boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, who arrived and took Gonzalez into custody before other officers arrived.

Responding officers found Gonzalez in handcuffs with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and is currently in custody facing felony assault charges. It is unknown if Gonzalez has retained legal counsel.

The woman and her father were not identified by police, and their injuries are still being evaluated. Police stated that the father, who legally possessed the firearm, is not facing criminal charges as he "feared for the physical safety of both himself and his daughter."

It remains unclear why Gonzalez was in the area at the time of the incident, but authorities confirmed he was off-duty and alone. The Department of Homeland Security has been contacted for comment. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are seeking additional witnesses and video footage.
