Odell Beckham Jr. Reacts to Jaxson Dart's Potential Season-Ending Injury
The veteran wide receiver expresses deep concern for his teammate after news surfaced that the Giants quarterback might require surgery.
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. shared his concern for quarterback Jaxson Dart after reports indicated the young player could face season-ending surgery due to a knee injury. Dart sustained the injury in the first quarter of the Giants' recent loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
"Prayers up for my brother 6," Beckham posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday. "Seeing the news is one thing but it’s harder until u actually see it."
Dart was injured after a hit from Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart. He was initially evaluated and ruled out for the remainder of the game before returning to the sideline in street clothes. Further testing revealed the potential severity of the injury.
Head coach John Harbaugh had initially described the injury as potentially being in the "neighborhood" of an MCL sprain, suggesting it was not as dire as it could have been. However, subsequent reports from ESPN indicated a more serious diagnosis that could sideline Dart for the entire season.
"Evaluations are ongoing," Harbaugh stated on Tuesday. "We haven’t got any final decisions yet, we’ve learned a lot more. I wouldn’t want to share too much until decisions get made."
Dart, a first-round draft pick, had started his second NFL season strong, leading the Giants to a Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, achieving a career-best passer rating of 134.2 in that game.
With Dart potentially out, the Giants may need to rely on backup quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston struggled in the game against the Rams, completing 40.7 percent of his passes for 111 yards, with one interception and no touchdowns.
"Absolute faith in all our players. That’s why all the guys are here. Jameis is one of our guys who obviously is here for a reason. He’s a very good football player," Harbaugh added. "That would go for any position, any player on our team. Injuries in the NFL are part of it, at any position."
