Odell Beckham Jr. Claims He Was Blindsided by Giants Release

Odell Beckham Jr. stated that he was blindsided by his recent release from the New York Giants, despite recording zero receptions in the first three games of the season.

Beckham, who previously played for the Giants from 2014 to 2018, made the team this offseason on a non-guaranteed contract worth $1.3 million after sitting out the previous season due to injury. He was behind receivers Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, and rookie Malachi Fields on the depth chart.

In a response to a social media user criticizing the Giants' decision, Beckham wrote, "I'm super smart, but I didn’t see this one my brotha. They got me!!!" He added that while the decision didn't personally hurt him, he was disappointed by the manner of his release.

Beckham acknowledged his lack of playing time and targets but expressed a sense of betrayal. "I came in HUMBLY, took [the] vet min then EARNED my spot n didn’t say nothing bout no $$$,” he wrote. "It didn’t hurt me but it did when they cut me like that, cause part of me is like I shoulda known better."

Beckham last played in the NFL in 2024 for the Dolphins, recording nine catches for 55 yards. Prior to that, he spent one season with the Baltimore Ravens, where he had 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns as he recovered from a torn ACL.
