Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., asserted on Sunday that a "generational tidal wave" of millennial voters is actively reshaping the American electorate, particularly in the wake of recent primary elections.
"Millennials are not punk kids anymore," Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with ABC News' "This Week." "We're grown adults with mortgages and kids, and that generation is starting to be decisive at the polls, and there is anger at being ignored, sidelined, having our economic futures mortgaged by the generations that came before us on everything from the economy to climate, and we're taking the reins."
Ocasio-Cortez indicated that this demographic shift is driven by a sense of economic disenfranchisement and a desire for action on issues like climate change, which she believes have been inadequately addressed by older generations.
