Obama Slams Trump, Ramaswamy Over 'Cruelty' in Midterm Campaign Rally
Former President criticizes Republican tactics on the campaign trail in Ohio ahead of midterm elections.
Former President Barack Obama on Saturday sharply criticized President Donald Trump and Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, characterizing their campaign tactics as examples of "cruelty and indecency." Obama's remarks came during a campaign rally in Ohio, a key battleground state, as he worked to mobilize Democratic voters ahead of the midterm elections.
Obama specifically addressed an advertising campaign by Ramaswamy that featured the estranged mother of Democratic rival Dr. Amy Acton. Ramaswamy has continued to defend the ad, and has received support from Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, despite calls for its removal from some Republican leaders in Ohio, including Gov. Mike DeWine.
"In recent days, we've seen there is no line he will not cross, no low he will not sink to," Obama stated, referring to Ramaswamy and his campaign tactics. He noted Acton's past experiences with abuse, neglect, and homelessness. "There's a decency we should expect out of our public officials," Obama continued, questioning the low standards of behavior that allow such an ad to be run.
Obama, 65, continues to be a significant figure in motivating Democratic voters. He was also scheduled to campaign in Michigan on Saturday night, using his influence in Midwestern states that could be pivotal in determining the balance of power in Congress.
Obama was campaigning for Ohio Democratic candidates, including Senate candidate Sherrod Brown and gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton.
