MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell has issued a warning regarding former President Donald Trump's potential strategy for the upcoming November elections, focusing on the presence of federal agents monitoring polling locations in Michigan. O’Donnell suggested this activity could be a precursor to a plan to undermine the election's integrity.

On Tuesday, the Department of Justice announced that federal agents from the Civil Rights Division's Voting Section, along with staff from Michigan's U.S. Attorney's Offices, were overseeing primary elections in four Michigan cities. The DOJ has a long-standing election monitoring program aimed at protecting federal civil rights laws.

However, O’Donnell expressed concern that Trump, who has repeatedly made baseless claims of a stolen 2020 election, might be using these monitoring efforts as part of a scheme to influence the outcome in Michigan, a key battleground state, should the Democrats win control of the U.S. Senate.

“That mystery could explode in our faces on election night in November,” O’Donnell stated, referring to the federal agents' presence. He posited that the reason for their monitoring might be revealed as a critical component of Trump’s strategy to “steal the election in Michigan in November to prevent the Democrats from winning control of the United States Senate.”

While acknowledging the possibility that the federal agents were engaged in routine operations, O’Donnell cautioned that there is also a chance Trump is “plotting to do something criminal on election night” in Michigan and potentially other states. He suggested the events of Tuesday might become clearer, and possibly alarming, during the midterm elections.

O’Donnell also referenced past events, including Trump's attempts to pressure Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to alter vote totals in 2020. He noted Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's experience with Trump's election-related rhetoric, recalling an incident in 2020 where Trump supporters protested outside her home, shouting "Stop the steal" while armed.

“And so the mystery remains, what were they doing?” O’Donnell asked. “What were they doing in Michigan? What were the Trump agents doing at polling places in Michigan yesterday and last night? And if that was a scouting trip for November — if that was a planning trip for November, what can be done to stop Donald Trump from stealing the election?”
