MS NOW host Lawrence O'Donnell stated that any sign of cognitive decline in Donald Trump would constitute the most significant global news story. "No matter what the news of the day is, if the president of the United States is insane, that is the biggest news of the day or any day," O'Donnell said during a recent broadcast.
While Trump has not been diagnosed with a cognitive disorder, and O'Donnell is not a medical professional, the host pointed to specific instances as indicators. He referenced a claim made by Trump at a Texas campaign rally, where the former president stated that his wife, Melania Trump, addressed him as "sir." O'Donnell described this as a potential starting point for what he characterized as the president's "hallucinated interactions."
O'Donnell recalled a nine-year-old tweet where he questioned how the public would know if Trump developed dementia. He suggested that seemingly minor slips in Trump's speech patterns, which O'Donnell believes were not possible for him to make in previous years, could be indicators. He posited that while a single slip might not be conclusive, the accumulation of such instances could reflect a decline in cognitive ability. O'Donnell noted that he focuses on these instances because, in his view, no one else does.
