NYU Langone Health Achieves Historic Fifth Consecutive Top Ranking from Vizient
The Manhattan campus has once again been named the nation's premier comprehensive academic medical center.
NYU Langone Health’s Manhattan campus has secured the top spot as the nation's premier comprehensive academic medical center for the fifth consecutive year, according to rankings released by Vizient, a healthcare improvement company. This achievement marks a historic first, as no other health system has held the No. 1 position in this category for five consecutive years.
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study evaluates over 1,000 hospitals and healthcare organizations across the United States annually. The assessment focuses on six critical metrics: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness, and equity. Vizient utilizes statistical analysis to determine the overall highest-scoring institutions.
Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman, dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health, expressed pride in the teams' dedication. "When patients look for the best place to receive their care, nothing matters more than quality and safety. Vizient understands that," Kimmelman stated in a news release. "That’s why NYU Langone is exceedingly proud of our teams, whose shared commitment to the highest standards led to this incredible, repeated recognition."
Beyond its overall ranking, NYU Langone Health also received high marks in other categories. Its network of over 400 ambulatory practices was recognized as the leading physician practice network nationwide among 70 participating organizations. These outpatient facilities offer primary, specialty, and surgical care, along with routine imaging and laboratory services.
Several of NYU Langone’s inpatient facilities located in Brooklyn and on Long Island also earned commendations within their specific categories. The Vizient rankings were released shortly after NYU Langone Hospitals was included on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2026-2027. That list highlights 20 medical centers noted for their excellence across various complex specialty care services, benchmark procedures, patient outcomes, nursing staff quality, and patient experience metrics.
