NYPD Union Honors New York Post for Excellence in Police Reporting

The New York Post was honored on Wednesday by the NYPD Detectives Endowment Association (DEA) for its reporting on the city's police force. The award ceremony, held in Throggs Neck, recognized the newspaper for its excellence in police reporting.

"That’s our paper, right?" said DEA President Scott Munro, addressing the gathering. "That’s the paper that we look at, that’s the paper we get our information out, and we want to honor them today." Munro highlighted The Post's collaboration with law enforcement and its role in disseminating information about issues affecting detectives, such as staffing shortages and challenges related to state criminal justice reforms. He noted that The Post provides its online content without a paywall, differentiating it from other major newspapers.

Editor-in-Chief Keith Poole accepted the award on behalf of the newspaper, acknowledging the members of The Post's police bureau. He praised their dedication and the importance of their work in documenting the sacrifices, dedication, and challenges faced by NYPD detectives.

"Thank you, Scott and the DEA for representing the interests of detectives keeping the city safe," Poole stated. "No only do you and your members have to deal with the insanely criminal, but also an increasing number of loudmouths and lawmakers who are pushing what appear to many to be insane criminal justice policies which only make your work harder and more dangerous."

Poole emphasized that the award was for the entire crime team, acknowledging their tireless efforts to tell the story of the officers' experiences. The Detectives Endowment Association is one of the largest unions representing NYPD officers.
