New York City police are searching for a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman in Queens on the Fourth of July. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in South Ozone Park.

According to the NYPD, the suspect, a 30-year-old woman, allegedly stabbed her 59-year-old mother, identified as Ausha Ramlakhan, in the neck and shoulder with a sharp object. Another family member discovered the victim at the home on 128th Street near Liberty Avenue and called 911. Responding emergency medical personnel pronounced Ramlakhan dead at the scene.

Law enforcement officials stated that the suspect fled the location on foot. She was last seen wearing blue yoga pants, a red tank top, and white sneakers. Detectives were observed gathering evidence at the crime scene. The motive for the killing has not yet been determined.

The 106th Precinct, which covers the area of the incident, has reported a 7% increase in major crimes this year compared to the same period last year, with 782 incidents recorded versus 730. Felony assaults are up by 18%, robberies by approximately 17%, and grand larcenies by 16%. Rape incidents have also risen, though police attribute wider citywide increases in this category to a revised legal definition of the crime. The stabbing is believed to be the precinct's first homicide of the year, with one homicide recorded at the same point last year.
