NYPD Officers Rush Suspected Migrant to Hospital After ICE Shooting

New York City police officers were captured on bodycam footage rushing a man, identified as Oscar Belgal, 28, to a hospital after he was shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon on Marble Hill Avenue.

According to reports, NYPD officers arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting. Bodycam footage shows officers observing Belgal on the ground, with one officer noting, "He's got a gun." ICE agents were present at the scene, one of whom was seen holding a long weapon. Bystanders were heard exclaiming, "ICE just shot somebody!" and "You got ICE shooting at people?"

Despite ICE agents remaining at the scene, NYPD officers decided to transport Belgal to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in their own vehicle. His injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. The shooting involved seven rounds fired by at least one ICE agent, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. Tisch emphasized that the NYPD was not involved in the federal operation prior to the shooting.

The circumstances leading to the ICE operation and the subsequent shooting remain under investigation. The incident has drawn attention from various political figures, with some calling for thorough investigations into the use of force by federal agents. Police officials have stated that a full account of the events will be provided as the investigation progresses.
