NYPD Officers Rescue Teen From Williamsburg Bridge Ledge
Emergency Service Unit personnel successfully de-escalated a situation and brought the 19-year-old to safety.
New York City police officers rescued a 19-year-old man from a ledge on the Williamsburg Bridge on Wednesday afternoon. The incident began around 12:50 p.m. when authorities received a 911 call reporting a distressed individual on the Brooklyn side of the span.
Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit responded to the scene. They spent approximately one hour communicating with the individual who was positioned precariously on the ledge, appearing to intend to jump. Video footage captured the moment two officers carefully descended to the ledge, positioning themselves on either side of the man while traffic was halted on the bridge above.
Another clip showed multiple officers surrounding the teenager as they prepared to safely lift him to the roadway. The operation concluded around 1:50 p.m. when the 19-year-old was removed from the bridge unharmed. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation.
