An officer from the New York Police Department's Harbor Unit rescued a woman from the murky waters of Newtown Creek in Queens last Friday. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. when the crew responded to a call about a woman who had fallen into the waterway.

Upon arrival, the police boat could not get close enough to the woman due to pilings in the water. An attempt to throw her an inflatable safety jacket was unsuccessful. In a swift decision, the officer entered the polluted creek without hesitation to reach the struggling woman.

Bodycam footage shows the officer swimming to the woman, securing her, and then bringing her to the patrol boat. The crew assisted in pulling both the officer and the woman aboard. Once on the boat, the woman was reassured and taken back to shore.

An Emergency Service Unit provided the woman with fluids, and she was then transported by EMS for further medical evaluation. The rescue highlights the quick actions of the NYPD officer in a challenging environment.
