New York City FC is set to play its final regular-season game at Yankee Stadium against rival Red Bull New York in spring 2027. This match will mark the conclusion of the club's tenure at the Bronx venue before its anticipated move into a new 25,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Queens during the summer of 2027.

The fixture is scheduled for May 8, 2027, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, serving as the closing game of an abbreviated 14-match schedule. Major League Soccer (MLS) unveiled this part of the schedule Wednesday night, coinciding with the league's transition to a summer-to-spring calendar.

Yankee Stadium has been New York City FC's primary home venue since the team's inaugural season in 2015. During this period, ownership pursued the development of a permanent home ground, which was ultimately established in the Willets Point area of Queens, adjacent to Citi Field.

The 14-game sprint season will be New York City FC's last at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field. The team aims to host its inaugural match at the new Etihad Park on July 17, 2027. While the club's new stadium is expected to be completed in spring 2027, officials opted to delay the stadium's opening until the 2027-28 season to ensure a thorough preparation and celebration, rather than rushing an opening mid-season.

Several notable moments in the Hudson River Derby, the rivalry between New York City FC and Red Bull New York, have occurred at Yankee Stadium. These include the 2016 match where Red Bulls secured a 7-0 victory and David Villa's three-goal performance in 2017.

The sprint season, running from February to May, is designed to bridge the gap between the 2026 and the upcoming 2027-28 league calendars. Each team will play 14 games exclusively against conference opponents. The top eight clubs from each conference will advance to the postseason, with opportunities to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Leagues Cup.

New York City FC CEO Brad Sims previously stated that this phased approach would allow the club to properly commemorate their final matches at existing venues and prepare meticulously for the new stadium's opening, ensuring a significant and memorable event for the club and the city.
