NYC Twins Turn Failed Eyelash Telehealth Venture into $2 Billion Platform

Twin brothers Zachary and Elias Dorf transformed a failed telehealth venture focused on eyelash treatments into Bask Health, a platform that has supported over $2 billion in transactions. The New York-based company provides the underlying technology for businesses looking to launch telehealth services.

Bask Health offers a suite of behind-the-scenes tools, including integrations with doctors and pharmacies, patient intake forms, payment processing, and management systems for patients and orders. The company reports a significant increase in demand for these services.

From Eyelash Treatments to a Scalable Platform

The Dorf brothers' entrepreneurial journey led them to identify an opportunity in the online sale of Latisse, an FDA-approved prescription treatment for eyelash growth. Recognizing the need for a robust system to handle prescriptions, consultations, payments, and patient management, they invested nearly $500,000 and spent almost a year developing the necessary infrastructure. Although the eyelash business did not achieve their desired success, the technology they built proved valuable.

Soon after, other entrepreneurs approached the brothers for assistance in launching their own telehealth businesses. Initially acting as consultants, Zachary and Elias observed the repeated development of similar systems for different clients. This realization prompted them to create a platform that could be widely adopted, leading to the inception of Bask Health.

Bask Health is now described as the "Shopify for telehealth," offering entrepreneurs the technology needed to establish a telehealth business more efficiently than building the infrastructure from scratch. Founders can reportedly launch a telehealth business in days by selecting medications from Bask Health's marketplace, choosing preferred pharmacy and medical infrastructure, and customizing templates.

The platform's marketplace has expanded considerably, now featuring over 60 pharmacies and more than 10 doctor groups, a significant increase from its initial few partners. This growth has coincided with the broader rise in telehealth adoption.

Capitalizing on Market Trends

Bask Health found itself well-positioned to support the surge in demand for telehealth services, particularly with the explosion of interest in GLP-1 weight loss drugs. Both new entrepreneurs and established businesses sought the necessary doctors, pharmacies, technology, and systems to enter this market, a need Bask Health was prepared to meet.

The company has experienced substantial growth, expanding from approximately 10 employees in its early stages to around 150 employees currently. Since its inception, Bask Health has supported more than 10 million patients, processing $1 billion in transactions in March 2026, a figure that doubled to $2 billion by the time of the report.

Global Expansion Plans

Headquartered in SoHo, Manhattan, Bask Health is now looking to expand internationally, with plans to enter the UK market later this year. The brothers acknowledge that each country has distinct regulations for telehealth, prescribing, and pharmacies. Their strategy is to thoroughly understand and integrate these complexities into their software to ensure a seamless experience for international clients, similar to what they offer in the US.
