A tragic incident on the New York City subway system resulted in the deaths of two young adults, Navam Kaul and Malaika Chitre, both 24, after they ended up on the tracks at the Spring Street station. Law enforcement sources indicated that the pair were hugging and kissing on the platform shortly before the fatal accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the sources, Kaul lost his balance and fell onto the tracks, hitting his head. Chitre reportedly followed him down in an attempt to help.

The sequence of events was captured on video, showing the couple sitting on the tracks before being struck by an incoming No. 4 train. Investigators are reportedly exploring whether intoxication played a role in the incident, though they do not believe it to be a suicide. Kaul and Chitre were described as longtime friends and recent graduates of Rutgers University who were just beginning their professional careers.
