New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has indicated he is considering whether he can legally arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to Manhattan. Netanyahu is scheduled to be in New York in September for the UN General Assembly.
Mamdani, a socialist Democrat, stated that he is engaged in an “active conversation” with city authorities about potential actions ahead of the prime minister's trip. He told The New York Times that his office would pursue any legal avenues available within New York City. "Whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that’s what we will do, but we won’t be writing our own laws to that end," Mamdani said.
