New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has responded to a post by Vice President JD Vance touting alleged achievements for New York under the Trump administration with a viral nine-second video. Vance had shared a list on X, formerly Twitter, claiming accomplishments such as safer communities, tax cuts for working families, and "historic investments" in the state.
A user-generated Community Note on Vance's post challenged several of these claims, stating that some figures were not federal results or specific to New York. The note pointed out that the $472 billion figure combined U.S.-wide pledges, with Micron's $250 billion including a $100 billion New York site and Anthropic's $50 billion covering both Texas and New York. It also clarified that the reported 48% murder drop was attributed to New York's state-run GIVE program, which involved 28 departments from January to May 2026.
Mamdani's response video, originally shared by online prankster Olly Bee, features Bee wearing a high-visibility vest and seemingly assisting a subway train's routine operations. The video's implicit comparison to Vance's post suggested a mocking tone, as it appeared to satirize taking credit for ordinary functions. Bee expressed delight at the attention, writing on Instagram, "HOLY SHIT @zohrankmamdani LETS COLLAB PLEASE."
