New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has expressed a desire to conclude his public dispute with rapper 50 Cent over tax policies. Mamdani shared his sentiments during an appearance on the "Complex" podcast, where he indicated a wish for a more amicable relationship with the artist.
Mamdani stated that his policy aims to increase taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers. He acknowledged that this stance is a point of contention with 50 Cent, who has publicly voiced his opposition. "I want to increase taxes on the wealthiest. He does not want that to happen," Mamdani said. He clarified that the proposed tax increase amounts to approximately $20,000 annually, which he described as a "rounding error" that would contribute to improving the lives of all New Yorkers.
Last year, 50 Cent responded to Mamdani's tax plan by stating on social media, "I’m not feeling this plan. No. I will give him $258,750 and a first-class one-way ticket away from NY. I’m telling Trump what he said too!" Following this, 50 Cent posted on Instagram, "RIP NYC, Founded 1624, Died 2025," referencing Mamdani's election victory.
Despite the disagreement, Mamdani stated he remains a fan of 50 Cent's music, even quoting the rapper's song "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" during a recent commencement speech. When asked by the interviewer if the feud was one-sided, Mamdani confirmed, "It's a one-sided beef."
Mamdani's ideal dinner party guest, after historical figure and former NYC Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, would be 50 Cent, specifically to engage in a conversation about tax policy.
Representatives for 50 Cent did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
