NYC Mayor Mamdani Sparks Outrage With Spanish ICE Encounter Guidance

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has drawn sharp criticism and faced accusations of treason after releasing a Spanish-language video on social media offering guidance to residents on how to handle encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The video, posted on X and quickly garnering millions of views, outlined that ICE agents cannot enter private spaces such as homes, schools, or hospitals without a judicial warrant. Mamdani also reminded New Yorkers of their right to remain silent and provided best practices for interacting with ICE, stating that "these are very frightening times for many people."

Mamdani's message was met with immediate backlash from conservative lawmakers and commentators who accused the mayor of obstructing federal law enforcement and encouraging illegal immigration.

"It should be insulting to every American that the mayor of our largest city is a guy who became a citizen less than a decade ago and now spends his time coaching illegal aliens in a foreign language on how they can avoid being lawfully deported," commented Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, on X.

Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, also posted on X, stating, "At no point in this video is anyone urged to abide by the laws of the United States. Because it was not made for the benefit of the people of the United States." Senator Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, simply labeled the message as "Treason" on X.

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren criticized the mayor's foreign birth and suggested his actions were intended to help undocumented immigrants "suck off our system." Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton called Mamdani's statement "dangerous incitement full of disturbing falsehoods by communist terrorist supporter @NYCMayor" and suggested it could endanger lives.

Mamdani has a history of opposing ICE and the Trump administration's immigration policies. He has previously called for abolishing ICE and pledged that the New York Police Department would not assist ICE with civil immigration enforcement. As mayor, he signed an executive order strengthening New York City's sanctuary policies, which limits cooperation between city agencies and federal immigration authorities and protects personal information.

Mamdani's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Mamdani has previously spoken out against ICE, particularly following a shooting incident in the Bronx where an ICE officer was involved in a fatal shooting. At the time, Mamdani called ICE a "rogue" agency and claimed its agents viewed the law as merely a suggestion. Mamdani blasts ICE as 'rogue' agency after NYC shooting, claims agents disregard law
