NYC Mayor Mamdani Accused of Betraying City by Siding with Terrorists and Illegal Immigrants
Critics condemn Mayor Mamdani's statements on Israel and recent ICE incident as evidence of radical ideology overriding his mayoral pledge.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is accused of betraying New York City by siding with what critics call "terrorists" and by promoting policies that protect illegal immigrants over public safety. These accusations stem from his recent remarks concerning the anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and his response to an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the Bronx.
Mamdani, who took office in January, pledged to serve all New Yorkers without fear or favor. However, his administration's actions and statements have led to criticism that his "dangerously radical beliefs" take precedence over his mayoral duties.
Criticism Over Israel Remarks
On Oct. 7, the third anniversary of the Hamas terrorist invasion, Mamdani delivered remarks that were interpreted by critics as a stark departure from his commitment to all New Yorkers. While acknowledging the Hamas attack, which killed over 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251, Mamdani's speech primarily focused on condemning Israel's actions in Gaza. He stated that Israel's actions constituted a "devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians — including more than 21,000 children," citing numbers from the Gazan health ministry. He also claimed that "our tax dollars fund these war crimes" and called for an end to U.S. complicity with arms shipments to Israel.
This stance was met with strong opposition. Israel's UN ambassador, Danny Danon, criticized Mamdani's remarks as an attempt to "hijack the anniversary of October 7 and turn it into yet another propaganda attack against Israel." He compared Mamdani's approach to making "September 11 into a day of mourning for al-Qaeda terrorists."
Mamdani's boycott of the Salute to Israel parade was also noted as a significant deviation from mayoral tradition, marking him as the first mayor in six decades to do so.
Controversy Over ICE Incident
A second incident that drew criticism involved an illegal immigrant with a criminal record who was shot by ICE agents in the Bronx while attempting to flee in his car with his young son. Mamdani publicly stated that he had informed President Trump that the city wanted all ICE agents out, describing the agency as one that "only terrorizes this city" and is "rotten to its core."
The individual in question, identified as Oscar Belgal, 28, reportedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 and is suspected of armed robbery, selling dangerous drugs, and ties to a violent street gang. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin blamed New York's sanctuary laws for preventing agents from apprehending Belgal earlier, creating the confrontation. Mullin stated, "Sanctuary politicians create an environment for criminal activity to thrive, not for American citizens to be safe."
Governor Kathy Hochul also spoke with Trump and Mullin, expressing "outrage on behalf of New Yorkers and urged them to halt ICE enforcement operations in New York." Critics, however, viewed Hochul's response as aligned with Mamdani's stance, defending a criminal illegal alien.
Mamdani's pledge at the start of his term was to protect all New Yorkers. Critics argue that his recent actions and statements demonstrate an allegiance to his ideological agenda, which they believe puts the city's safety and international relations at risk.
