Truron Roach-Martin, a 24-year-old drill rapper who performed as Briscoe Bands, was fatally shot Wednesday morning near the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn. Authorities reported that Roach-Martin was struck in the face and chest around 9:20 a.m. He was transported to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced dead.
Roach-Martin, a father of a 3-year-old girl, had recently signed with a record label, according to his mother, Christine. She told the New York Daily News that she believes jealousy and envy may have played a role in her son's death, noting that his career was gaining momentum.
“He was a young black man coming up in the music business,” she stated.
The New York Police Department had not determined a motive for the shooting as of Thursday. The alleged assailant reportedly fled the scene heading east on West 28th Street toward Mermaid Avenue.
Briscoe Bands recently announced on Instagram the release of a remix of “Mari Glock” and a collaboration track titled “93 Shots.” He had amassed over 13,000 followers on the social media platform.
His mother described him as someone who “didn’t bother nobody” and expressed her grief, stating that her family is deeply affected by the loss and that the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
