NYC Carvel Cake Message Mishap Leads to Hilarious Birthday Blunder

A New York City Carvel location has become the center of a viral sensation after a customer’s birthday cake order resulted in a comically literal interpretation of a requested message. Chelsi Kern, a casting agent, ordered a Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake for her husband’s birthday, requesting a customized inscription.

Kern’s instructions, as documented on the order receipt, asked for the message “RUN” to be written on the cake, with the parenthetical addition: “(BIG, all caps, creepy if possible) Pink Inscription.” She intended this as a lighthearted, inside joke for her husband, a long-time fan of the Fudgie the Whale cake.

However, the Carvel decorator’s execution of the request led to an unexpected outcome. Instead of the intended concise message, the cake was inscribed with “Run & Big, All Caps Creepy if Possiple.” The decorator appears to have interpreted the parenthetical instructions as the actual text to be written, rather than a descriptor for the word “RUN.”

Kern shared the incident on Threads, posting images of the cake and the receipt. She described her reaction as uncontrollable laughter, stating she was “wheezing so hard” and “literally collapsed” at the sight of the misspelled and misdirected message.

While some friends suggested seeking a refund, Kern declined, finding the mistake to be a source of great amusement and a memorable story. She told Today.com that embracing such mishaps can be more enjoyable than reacting with anger. Her husband, after an initial moment of confusion, also found the cake’s message to be humorous.

Carvel has not yet responded to a request for comment regarding the incident.
