NYC Banker Faces Rape Charges, Loses Job Offer

A New York City banker made his latest court appearance Thursday to face charges of raping a woman, an accusation that resulted in him losing a six-figure job offer. Mark Harris, 38, is accused of raping a 25-year-old woman inside her Midtown Manhattan apartment on February 25, 2025.

Prosecutors allege Harris pulled the woman's pants down, held her down on a mattress, raped her, and told her she "had this coming." The alleged assault occurred two days after Harris had secured a job with private equity firm KKR, which rescinded the offer after the charges were filed.

During the court appearance, Harris appeared calm in a dark suit and striped shirt. He spent significant time speaking with his attorney, Zach Intrater, before his case was called before Judge Michele S. Rodney. The brief hearing concluded with the case adjourned until December 14, pending the return of DNA test results expected in the fall.

Harris did not speak during the hearing and remained silent when approached by reporters afterward. His attorney informed the judge that Harris is now living in North Carolina, though a specific location was not provided. Harris owns a property in Brooklyn valued at approximately $2.6 million.

Court documents indicate the alleged victim repeatedly asked Harris to stop before kicking him off her. Prosecutors stated Harris called her a "fing bh" as he left the apartment.

Harris was arrested on March 6, 2025, nine days after the alleged incident. He faces charges including three counts of first-degree rape, four counts of first-degree sex abuse, and seven counts of second-degree assault. He was released after posting $150,000 bail.

In June, Judge Rodney ordered Harris to surrender his U.S. and British passports. A prosecutor cited Harris's professional and personal ties in Latin and South America as the reason for this request.

Harris's professional background includes an 11-year tenure at Japanese bank SMBC, where he served as director of structured and project finance in New York City. His public LinkedIn profile indicates he also worked at SMBC Nikko Securities and Investec. His listed work experience concluded in 2024, and his profile claims he managed over $15 billion in closed transaction volume.
